Rap Music

Today we touched briefly on Ishmael's brush with death and how Rap music saved him (in a sense). You will see later how Ishmael continues to be helped out by his affinity for Rap music.

What type of music do you listen to? What do you like/dislike about certain types of music? When do you listen? How does music affect you? Are you particularly drawn to a song? Which song and why? Speak here about anything you want in regards to music and your life.

  1. My favorite music would probably be rock. I like a lot of music because I just like the beat and sound of it, which I am the same as my brother and we listen to a lot of music. The only music I don't like is like screamo because you can't even hear what they are saying and I am not too big on rap, but I don't really mind hip-hop, which I don't really listen to.

  2. I enjoy listening to hard rock or heavy metal. I enjoy the way the guitar sounds and the beat of the drums. I, like Josh, am not a big fan of rap. I like the tempo of heavy metal and hard rock. Rap has too slow a tempo in my opinion. My favorite song is "Happy?" by Mudvayne. That's my favorite song because it has great guitar parts. Although I'm not an avid listener to rap, there are a few songs I think are solid.

  3. I listen to DethCore, heavy metal, death metal, techno-ish, trance, and music like that. What I really like about the music I listen to is that is fast, challenging to play, and fun to MOSH to! (For those of you who don’t know what moshing is… well you should, because it’s fun, brutal fun!) I don’t really like rap or hip-hop because it’s boring to listen to, but the only rap-ish stuff I’ll listen to is Eminem’s later music because it’s kind-of depressing but also very interesting to listen to. I kinda like classical music to. Like really fast classical music, or music that’s funny. Like the song What Makes a Man or Tenacious D. I also really like music for backround stuff like for a video game that takes place in the olden-times, like Diablo 2, or like the backround music for movies, like Lord of the Rings. Also, like 16 bit music or 32 bit music from like Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hegdehog, or The Legend of Zelda. Lastly I enjoy Michael Jackson’s older music, like Beat It, or Smooth Criminal.

  4. I like a very wide range of music. I'll listen to just about any type of rock you can come up with, and there are a few songs I like that could be considered pop. I outright hate country music and dislike anytype of rap.
Metal music has always kinda had me though. I love a good guitar. Singers I couldn't care less, but if there's a failing instrumental I may not like it.
For a certain song I've always really loved the song Sad Statue by System of a Down and ironically am wearing their T-shirt right now. And you know I have to agree with Ben, Smooth Criminal is an amazing song.

  5. i listen to alot of different types of music! My favorite radio station would be 104.7 KCLD! Music definatly is a big part of my life! it ,akes my day better, and even gives me something to relate to when i'm sad, mad, or just don't know how i'm feeling! I don't really like music that doesn't have a purpose, but i do listen to alot of rapp still! a song that really means alot to me is absolutely (story of a girl), because i really feel like it gives me something to relate to! it talks about how you can look at life as a bad thing, because you never look the way you want, or things don't always go the way you want, but someone no m atter what is always going to think the world of you! I find that really important to know that! That's how i feel about music, and how it effects my life.

  6. I will listen to almost anything anyone has on, except for rap and hip hop, but I mostly listen to country music. Some people say country is stupid, but it doesn't really bother me, and I wonder why they care what I listen to. It's not like they're being forced to listen, too. My favorite song would be Walking in Memphis because it has a cool sound and doesn't try too hard.

  7. I listen to rap, hip hop,and r&b. I don't like country at all. I think it's the gutar and just the hole idea. I listen to rap and hip hop when i'm in a upbeat mood. I mostly listen to r&b when i'm in a singing mood haha meaning relaxed like a bubble bath or when I'm doing homework. My favorite song changes a lot. Right now it would have to be successful by Drake and Trey Songz. I like this song because of the beat and what he talks about. His lyrics are the best in my opinion.

  8. I like any kind of music really. Except for country, and other country type music. I really don't know why i don't like it. I listen to music everyday on the radio. The only time i don't like music is when the song gets stuck in my head. It's aways the really random songs like Hannah Montana or Spongebob.

  9. I love music. I really can't get enough of it. I don't have a favorite type of music, because my mood is always different. Not that I'm bipolar, but everyday, I feel different. If I'm in an upbeat mood, I'll listen to some techno or something, or if I'm calm, classical it is. A song that I really like is "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. The message in it is a total life lesson. I think everyone should listen to it. "Life's a climb, but the view is great." (The Hannah Montana Movie)

  10. I agree with jenny. I adore music and would absolutely DIE without it, not to mention become eternally bored. I listen to music all the time, and I'll listen to pretty much any music except for country. Eww. I play piano and viola, and I sing, so music is a huge part of my life. :)

  11. I really like a lot of different types of music: rock, grunge, ska, non-current pop, classic rock, old school rap- whatever I'm really into at the time. I really dislike (current) rap and pop music because so many artists are covering up their voices with machines and not showing their beautiful vocal talent- if they have any. And I seriously dislike country music because it's only about either my dog died, my truck broke down, my girlfriend/boyfriend left/cheated on me, and it gets repetitive. Music keeps me sane; it keeps me from dying of boredom and it makes me happy. I could never really pick a favorite song because I love so many, but when once in a while a song or album just kind of calls out to me and I listen to it over and over and over again. I have 2 right now, Nirvana's Nevermind and The Beatle's Abbey Road.

  12. I listen to almost anything. I love every kind of music. I used to be really into country music and would refuse to listen to anything else. I listen to screamo, country, rap, rock, alternative and pop. My current favorite band right now is Owl city. My favorite song is from a different band. Its tears dont fall - bullet for my valentine. My favorite song changes a lot. Either weekly or every other day. I agree with Breise21. Who cares if people don't like what I'm listening to. They're not forced to listen to it.

  13. I only listen to rock music. I am open minded so I listen to all types of rock music like: heavy metal, hard rock, light rock, pop rock, and boy band rock. In my opinion, I don't like rap music at all. To me, music speaks a message to people, and in its own way it represents someone. Rap music's message is mostly drugs, sex, violence, and shooting. Not that rock doesn't have bad messages either though, because some of it does. I listen to music A LOT. It affects the mood and how I feel. I don't have a favorite song, but my favorite music is heavy metal. I love listening to the beat of the song, and it keeps me awake. That's why I like rock music.

  14. I like rock, pop, and most of any other kind of music. I don't like the oldies. It's really boring and uncool. I like rock because its cool to listen to. When I'm listening to music I feel, I can be myself.
My favorite song is "one time" because I like Justin Bieber. I like the song because it can relate to peoples' lives.
