Choices

Ishmael has had to make some tough decisions already in his young life. He had to decide if he should risk his life and return home to find his family. Every day he has to decide if he should continue to hang with his five friends. He will have to make many more decisions.

What has a been a difficult choice for you to make? Have you ever had to make a very difficult one? How did you choose? Was it the right choice?

Do you think Ishmael has made good choices so far? If you knew people were afraid of small groups of boys and would possibly kill you, would the benefits of being with your friends (and brother) be worth the risk?

  1. Well I have never had to make a really tough decision, just the normal decisions everybody makes. I think so far Ishmael has made good decisions, because if he would of went back for his parents, he probably would have been captured or killed. I think the risk of being in a group means you could survive easier, but then again one person can move a lot faster and can be more stealthy.

  2. I agree, Josh. Perhaps the "moral support" you get from a group is worth the risk. Ishamael has already lost a lot of the people he loves. He probably couldn't bear to give up his brother and friends right now.

  3. I have made some hard decisions so far, but one that I made was if I should severing for my crurch or not. In the end I started to serve for crurch. If I were Ismeal i would travel with a group, but when going though a town I would go one at a time and meet up. I think that Ismeal has made very good choices so far I really hope that he keeps that up.

  4. I have made some tough decisions and i have a lot that lie ahead in the future! Some i have made are if i have the commitment to take care of a dog, and another was if i wanted to switch everyday with my parents. Some ones i will have to make is where i want to go to high school, and also should i continue to play sports competitively in high school. So far i think ishmael has made great decisions, if he would have gone to find his family, he would have died sooner, or had greater risk. Also, yes, traveling in a group does present risks, but if he was alone, he could have drove himself crazy by now, the mental and physical supports helps him survive! So he has made good decisions, and he is very smart for his young age, and mentally strong!

  5. I havent really made any tough decisions so far, but I know life will soon bring me some (not that I want them). I think Ishmael has made mostly good choices so far, and I think being together in a group helps him cope with everything that is happening.

  6. Like Alec and Josh, I haven't made any really tough decisions yet, but I think overall, Ishmael made some pretty good decisions so far. I also think that he should stay with his friends, even though the whole group might look dangerous to some people. In a group, you never have to go through anything alone and some people in the group might have some good ideas that could help them out. Also, your friends could help you stay motivated to keep going, even if you really don't want to. You might move a little slower, but I think a group is worth the risk.

  7. Out of all my experiences I think the hardest chocie I had to make was weather or not I'd go to my grandmother's funeral. My mental health had been very touch and go for awhile and I was sure that as soon as I saw her again my brain would decided that it didn't want to deal with me anymore. In the end I did end up going and I think it was probably the right thing to do, but it did end of really hurting me. She's been gone for awhile now, but it still kinda stings to think about her.

    Well that was depressing///

Anyways I do think that Ishmael is making some good decisions. (Well actually I've begun to believe he's starting to turn down roads he'll never come back from.)

  8. If you ask me, at this point any decision that doesn't kill him or his friends is a good decision. Like half the people that have commented I have not made a tough decision as far as I remember, but I can already think of ones I will have to face in the years to come.
