Comment on Tidwell's revelation: "And perhaps it was just as well Ilunga and the others weren't in a hurry to become the kind of producers I wanted them to be. They might develop along Western lines with time, but why push them? The local system worked. Everyone was taken care of."
Was anyone frustrated when Ilunga gave his fish away? Explain.

No, because in that culture, nobodies left out, and it's perfectly normal to share with the community. You don't try to make yourself rich, but try to help everyone, not just yourself.
ReplyDeleteI was mad because I think that Illunga should have kept his fish because he had worked so hard on harvesting them. He shouldn't have just given the fish away. He needed his wife back!
ReplyDeleteYes some people were frustrated when Ilunga gave his fish away because they thought since he did most of the work that he should of kept all of his fish.
ReplyDeleteNo one was mad at Ilunga for giving away fish. This is because they were gaining from this. All the people were gaining a meal, or getting a free lunch and or dinner. In that part of the continent many people were poor. The only person who was mad was Michel.
ReplyDeleteNo, If everybody makes a pond, and everybody gives some fish away, then it turns out even in the end.
ReplyDeleteI was sad. I do not think that it was fair because Ilunga worked so hard and just gave his hard work away. He should have kept the fish and got his wife back. I think it would have been better for him.
ReplyDeletenot really, because it was Ilunga's fish anyways, so it is up to him what happens to his fish. He was just doing the right thing, sacrifising what he has to help the other villagers to survive so that nobody is left behind and everybody shares there stuff.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't mad because things are different in other countries. You share what you have in those countries because most people in the villages don't have a whole lot themselves.
ReplyDeleteYes some people were frustrated when Ilunga gave his fish away because they thought since he did most of the work that he should of kept all of his fish.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was dumb for Ilunga to give his fish away. Sure if he would give some to the tribe that would've been different, but the tribe just assumed they could take the fish. They didn't ask or anything. If that would've happened to me I would've been so mad. Ilunga worked so hard to harvest them and they just took it away.
ReplyDeleteI was not frustrated. It was his fish. He should decide what to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't mad. I agree with Brittany because you should always follow what you believe in and Ilunga felt that it was the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteSome people were frustrated and thought that Ilunga should have kept the fish because he worked so hard on it and he just gave it all away.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed with Ilunga. He created this huge pond and made himself look like a fool picking up scraps from the market to feed his fish just to get money. He shouldn't have just gave them away.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sara. There type of life is loving. No one is left out and everyone is a family.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone was mad because things are different in other countries. You share what you have in those countries because most people in the villages don't have a whole lot themselves.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't mad because I think that Ilunga was happy to give fish away to all the people in the village. Everybody else was happy to because they got food and wouldn't starve. That showed that Ilunga cared about everybody else instead of of only caring about himself.
ReplyDeleteI think that Ilunga shouldn't have given away so many fish because he worked so hard for those fish and then he just gave them away.
ReplyDeleteI was somewhat frustrated at the fact that he gave his fish away. They were his fish, that he toiled over. But that can go the other way, that they were his fish to do whatever he pleases with.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't mad. I thought that if that is what Ilunga wanted to do with his fish then he should. He worked hard and he still had some for himself.
ReplyDeleteI was mad at first because people that made fun of Ilunga got the fish that they said he was never going to get and he just gave it away, but then those people aren't going to make fun of him any more and might help out the next time they "plant" the fish.
ReplyDeleteYeah I was mad, because he worked so hard to get his precious fish. Even though nobody believed in him he still went with it. Then when he finally got it they just stole practically all of it. That was so not fair at all.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't mad because it was Ilunga's fish, he worked for and if he thinks he should give it away he can.
ReplyDeleteMichel was the only mad one. But the system worked, why should they change it? Ilunga had enough fish for himself.
ReplyDeleteWhen Ilunga gave his fish away, it made me happy and sad at the same time. I was sad because he had put all his hard work to waste by giving more than half away. I was happy because I know that African tribes always share. Ilunga was making sure that everyone was taken care of. He was just being a good friend, brother, and neighbor.
ReplyDeleteI was happy that Illunga gave away some of the fish because it showed that he was a caring person. I also thought that he should keep some for him because he did do all the work. I think he did the right thing by giving the fish away because he lives in a country where they share everything.
ReplyDeleteWhen Illunga gave his fish away to the others, it made me mad because he worked very hard on harvesting his fish out of the pond he had dug. He had worked hard to find scraps for the fish to eat too! I think that he deserved to get his wife back with all of his time and effort he had put in to the harvest to earn the money.
ReplyDeleteI was a little upset when Ilunga gave away his fish. It takes alot to do what Ilunga did. He worked super hard for the pond and people came and took his fish. But every one has to live. It's not like its every man for itself. You got to look out for eachother.
