Expectations

The film was actually even more successful than the novel. In some respects, the film re-inspired passion for the novel. Did the film meet your expectations? Why or why not?

  1. It did live up to my expectations but they movie changed some things around, and left some parts of the story out.

  2. I think the film was good and bad. I thought it was good because it helped me visualize the characters and it illustrated their actions and personality. It also helped me picture the book better. I thought the movie was bad because I'm a huge critic, and Nanny Flowers didn't look extremely fat. Nanny Flowers wasn't that grumpy either. I also realized that when Kahu dives into the ocean to get Koro's stone, Nanny didn't dive into the water to look for Kahu, (it actually didn't look like she cared.) So I think the book was better than the movie.

  3. Yes it did meet expectaions, although mine were not very high. The only thing I was dissapointed on was that Koro did not really speak to Kahu at all in the book but in the beginning he almost sort of liked her? Atleast thats how it seemed to me, also i got confused with why they called her a different name. I understand there was a meaning i just didnt catch it right away because it wasnt used in the book.

  4. In my opinion, the movie didnt meet my expectations because I dont think that they portrayed the whales enough, and I didnt like that they left a lot out. They could have showed a lot more of the events that took place.

  5. I didn't live up to my expectations. The novel was to serious compared to the novel. I liked the book much better, even though I had to re-read everything twice. The novel left most of the book out. It went from Kahu's birth right to when she was eight years old. I would've liked the movie more if they showed more of Rawiri. The book didn't have much of the actual school training with Koro.

  6. I don't think the movie quite met my expectations. I was expecting the movie to form around the book. I was actually kind of disappionted that they changed the relationship between koro and Kahu. But over all I think the book was just as good as the movie.

  7. Yes, it met my expectations. The plot was almost the same as the book which I loved. Most movies I see based on books don't follow very much of the storyline. The whole movie had the similar feeling of sadness just like the book had. It's no surprise it did well.

  8. The movie didn't really meet my expectations. I was a little disappointed that they left some of the parts out, and Kahu and Koro's relationship confused me. In the book Koro wants nothing to do with Kahu from the beginning, but in the beginning of the movie, Koro would let Kahu ride on her bike and even hugged her. I liked the book better.

  9. I did not like the movie. Way under my expectations. I thought the ancient bull whale was supposed to be huge, and where was the tattoo? I didn't like how Rawiri was the placeholder instead of Porourangi and I didn't like how Rawiri was fat. Also, I thought Koro wasn't supposed to like Kahu at all. He sort of liked her, and that was confusing.

  10. I think that the movie wasn’t as good as the book because the movie leaves a lot of beginning details out, like when Kahu bit Koro’s toe. They also skipped from her being born to when she was eight. I think that the book had more detail and more interesting things that happened.

  11. I liked the book better, which is not normal for me. I just think that they changed way to many things for the movie, it could have been way better.

  12. I didn't like the movie that much. On the other hand, I really liked the book. I kind of think that the movie was kind of slow and not very interesting, but the book was exciting and pulled you in, a little more fast paced. I also think that since i read the book first, it bugged me that the movie changed the atory a bit. If I would've seen the movie first, I might not've cared so much.

  14. The story line was okay for the movie, but some of the people didn't fit their description, or what I thought they would look like in the book. Like Rawiri, I thought that he would be kind of stocky, but he turned out to be tall and overweight. And Nanny didn't look like I thought she should either.

  15. I liked the book more than the movie. Alot of the details in the book were not mentioned in the movie. Also alot of stuff changed in the movie.
