Inem's Mother

Inem's own mother was unable to see beyond her own beliefs that Inem was old enough to marry. She seemed to think it was OK because that is what she had done and her mother before her. She couldn't see Muk's mother's point of view. Do you think Muk's mother could have done more to stop the marriage? Should she have? What should she have done?

  1. I think she was doing ok at least telling Inem's mother that she thought Inem was too young. I don't think she could had done much more to stop it, and even if she did Inem is not her child and Inem's mother would have the say in what happens.

  2. I think that Muk's mother couldn't really do anything to stop the marriage. It was really Inem and her mother's choice. Inem even said that she wanted to get married, so Muk's mother couldn't really do anything about it.

  3. I agree with Schleper. Muk’s mother tried to talk Inem’s mother out of letting her get married when she was only eight, but Inem’s mother thought that Inem was plenty old enough. Inem wanted to get married, but she was only thinking of the wedding, not what would happen after.

  4. No I don't think she could have done more to help Inem. In Asia it's all about respecting equals and elders. She would have been insulting the mother if she helped Inem. Like she said to Inem you are a divorced woman and it would look bad to come back to my house.

  5. I think that she could have done more to stop her. Muk's mother could've gave them money so that Inem wouldn't have to get married.
