Peer pressure

Orwell regrets falling to peer pressure, yet he understands that his youth made him more succeptable to caving in. He seems to hate the people for pressuring him, and hate himself for succumbing to it. Put yourself in his place. Would you have reacted the same? What would you have done differently?

  1. I would not have reacted the same way. He gave in, and killed an innocent animal on the way. We all have these times when we're mad and angry and for the Elephant, that was its time. He didn't do what his heart told him to do. He did what he thought would make him and the other officers, more powerful.

  2. I most likely would have. I am not the most couragous person. I seriously would have been more afraid of an angry mob attacking me than killing the poor elephant. I am NOT saying that I'm fine with the fact that he killed an elephant I'm just stated that I wouldn't have had the courage to defy an enitre village and walk away.

  3. I wouldn't have reacted the same way at all. I think that it's kind of wrong, and stupid when people say that they did something because of peer pressure. Sometimes, like when people smoke, they say that all their friends were doing it and they wanted to fit in. But you're your own person, and you can't let other people choose who you are. Because then, you're a poser. at some point you'll forget your pose. then who are you?

  4. I most likely would have acted in the same way. I agree with Poncho- I would have been waaaaay more afraid of what would happen to me if I didn't follow through. I just don't see how they didn't notice that the elephant had returned to it's normal, docile state and still they pressed Orwell on to do something so unnecessary.

  5. I think I would have almost been peer pressured, but when it comes to something really important, I think I would've done the right thing. I think it's better to hurt my own reputation to save a life. Animal's have feelings too.
