Killing an Elephant

I accidently ran over a cat once. It was mortifying. I knew then that I would never be able to be a hunter, although my husband has tried many times to get me to hunt. You hunters out there, share your stories of hunting. What are your thoughts when hunting? Do they mirror Orwell's?

  1. I go dear hunting and that stuff. And some people think that it's wrong because you're killing a deer for fun. Well, It's not like I just go out there and kill and deer and not use it. My uncles process the meat for us. Just because I kill an animal doesn't mean that I can't appreciate the beauty, or it's strength to survive. When my dad was a kid, to buy meat, you went to the butcher, and you saw the blood and all that. Now, it's packaged, with blood clotters and stuff. people don't realize that somebody shot this animal, cut it up and THEN packaged it into what you see now. The difference between me, and people who oppose hunting as a sport is that I can face what I am. Someone has to kill an animal for a burger or steak, I just don't pay for someone else to do it for me.

  2. My dad made me go hunting with him, one time last year and it was not very fun. We were hunting grouse. I shot 3, but after that i was done. I felt really bad about shooting an animal that didn't do anything wrong. I would have to say, i felt worse about the first one i shot than the second or third. I can never get myself to go hunting ever again. It was not a good experiance.

  3. I don't hunt, but my dad does. He usually hunts deer. I think it's perfectly fine to hunt deer, otherwise there will be too many of them. It's not like someone owns the deer, like the elephant.
