Ilunga's Harvest

Comment on Tidwell's revelation: "And perhaps it was just as well Ilunga and the others weren't in a hurry to become the kind of producers I wanted them to be. They might develop along Western lines with time, but why push them? The local system worked. Everyone was taken care of."

  1. I think he's saying that even though the local system may be unfair to the individual, it is for the greater of good of the community. And if everyone does this, it takes care of everyone there. Then you look at the Western communities, and while it's more advanced, it's more of a selfish system. So maybe if Illunga's village keeps going, they might collide. But for now it's a good system for their community as far as the good of it.

  2. I agree with his revelation because if the villagers wanted to become the producers Tidwell dreamed of them being, then the villagers probably would've overworked themselves, especially Ilunga, and he would've had a great chance of dieing from exhaustion. His technique with making the ponds and growing Tilapia worked very well. Now that Tidwell's first technique with the ponds and tilapia worked, they could probably handle the next level.

  3. I agree with Briese21. The system is unfair to the person that did all the work, but the whole community is helped. I also agree with the revelation because hes saying that they will be patient and slowly develop ponds for fish in other areas.

  4. I agree with Briese21. It's completely unfair to the person. But in the same sense the individual has to because if he/she doesn't help the community, everyone would die. The fish pond will help the communities, because other leaders will follow Illunga's steps, and other areas will become better.

  5. I also agree with Briese21. It is unfair to the person that did all the work and had to go through all the labor in order to survive. I know that if I were the people, I would be thankful for what I was given. I think that what IJN7 said was deep. I agree with him/her because it is true that if he didn't give fish to everyone in the community, people would think of him as selfish and people would die without the help.
