The officer sent to pick up the girls when they make it home, goes to check out the "women's business" in the bush. He is intimidated my Molly's mother. How does she intimidate him without threats, without words, and while he is carrying a gun?
Because of her poise, and how she is not intimidated by him. Also having a fierce expression and a large stick doesn't hurt. To me, her eyes just said: Be afraid, be very afraid.
He was scared of her because of the way she look, and the way she held her body. Plus I think the women who weren't there would've came in a big rush if they heard a gunshot.
