Rabbit Proof Fence

The film starts out with an eagle soaring above Molly and her mother. Later, an eagle soars about the bodies of Molly and her sister when they are passed out in the desert. What is the significance? What does the eagle symbolize?

  1. The mom told molly that the bird is a spirit bird and it watches over you. So when Molly and her sister were laying there in the desert, passed out they looked up and saw the bird. Almost meaning that the spirit is watching them, maybe trying to symoblize everything will be okay if you use all your strength and continue on.

  2. At the beginning of the movie, her mother says that the bird is like a spirit bird, and that it will always watch over her. When Molly and her sister faint, they wake up to find the bird flying over them. Molly takes it as a symbol that it is watching over them, just like her mother promised.

  3. At the beginning of the movie, her mom says that the eagle is a spirit and that it watch over her [Molly]. So when Molly sees it in the sky when she's about to give up, the eagle gives her the strength to carry on to find her mother.
