"French Lessons"

The main character is taken under the wing of Lidia Mikhaylovna. Why? And how did this get him through school?

  1. The teacher was helping him with his french and also playing a game for money illegally. He has extra money to afford milk and bread.

  2. I think Lidia noticed how the main character was kind of the outcast of the school, and how he kept getting beat up by kids. Lidia brought him to her house to learn more french, but to also protect him from all the mean kids. Lidia also probably invited him to her house to make sure he stopped playing games for money, because it was dangerous and against school rules. She noticed all the potential in the main character, and she didn't want it to go to waste.

  3. She takes him in and says she wants to help him with french, but i think she made him stay after so that he would stay out of the game. It got him through school because he stayed away from the game and found a friend in Lidia. She also offered food to him everynight. The friendship also helped him through school because he could then pass french.

  4. I agree with katie. I think she cared about him, because she knew he was lonely. I also think it's because she didn't want to see him get hurt by the money game. She even helped him with French, and gave him food.

  5. I agree with EVERYTHING Katelyn (Schneider) said. Without the help of Lidia, he would've failed French, and in turn he probably would've failed the whole year, and been held back.
