The Torn Invitation

How important are appearances? We hear two different sides of the story: Don't judge a book by its cover, and the importance of a good first impression. Is it possible to be completely non judgemental?

  1. I don't think it is humanly possible to be completely non judgemental. It's part of our nature to judge people in some way or another whether it's their looks, smarts, or culture. Even if you claim to be non judgemental somewhere in life you are gonna slip up and judge someone.

  2. I don't think it's possible to be completely judgemental, because everyone can think and therefore also has an opinion. I do think that first impressions are very important, but that people shouldn't judge them solely on that.

  3. I agree with gingerbear. It is hard not to judge someone no matter how hard you try. The only thing you can do, is keep your thoughts to yourself, and not let it bug you. Appearances aren't that important, mostly your actions. Actions have a bigger impact on people than your appearance does.

  5. I don't think that it's possible to not judge people. It's just what we do automatically. I think that appereances aren't everything, but you should at least dress decently. If you were going to apply for a CEO position, you wouldn't wear a baggy sweatshirt, and pajama pants, and flip flops. We live in a society where what you where expresses who you are, and tells a lot about you. But you shouldn't label people based on what they wear before you really know them. It's not like Harry's mom was wearing rags, but he couldn't see past that because he was comparing her to other people's moms. That's not fair to her.

  6. I think everyone else summed it up pretty well. I would just add that people judge all the time. They don't even realize it. It's just what people do.

  7. I don't think it's possible to be completely non judgemental. Imagine going to an interview wearing rag like clothing, dirty and stinky. Would you get the job? Even if you did possessed all the necessary aspects? I don't think you would.

  8. I dont think there is a soul on earth that does not judge people. I think no matter who you are and how you look you will still judge people based on some outer apperance. You may not judge how someone looks, but maybe you will judge how they talk, or some other thing. Its not good to judge people, but if you say you never do you are most likely to be lying.

  9. I think that what's inside matters a lot more than apearance. You could be good looking and be a huge jerk. I'm not saying that appearance doesn't matter at all, it just doesn't matter AS much to me. I think that it is completely impossible to be non judgemental because everyone has a brain and feelings which means that we all think differently and have our own opinions. I agree with gingerbear because I think that judging people is part of our nature and we can't help it.

  10. I would agree with everyone who is saying the same thing. You can't be comepletely non-judgemental, blah blah blah, happy saying at the end. We all judge people.

  11. Everyones right. I don't think it's possible not to judge someone. Everyone has ther little quirks or something, and you shouldn't judge them for that. First apperances are good, but it doent let the other people see who the real you is. That's probably why people put on first apperances so no one judges them.

  12. I think it's impossible to be non-judgemental. Everyone in their lifetime has judged someone and sometimes we don't notice but we do it all the time. Even I have a problem becuase I judge consistently about things that don't matter but the thing is to realize that what you're doing is wrong and look deeper and find a truer meaning in someone.
