Ilunga's village

Students last year thought the village was being greedy by helping themselves to Ilunga's harvest. However, someone pointed out that Ilunga would have wanted the village to help themselves. What do you think?

  1. I think that the village was being greedy, but in their culture everyone shares everything, which is not like the culture here, so I can understand why they did what they did, even if I don't agree with it.

  2. I think that what happened after Ilunga harvested his fish was just what they do in the village. They all help everyone. If he wouldn't have let the others in the village help themselves then the village would have thought that HE was greedy and wouldn't have helped him if he wanted help later.

  3. I think this it could go either way, but I agree more with Ilunga's village being greedy because they didn't even ask Ilunga if they could take his fish. The village just took the fish without realizing that he needed the money to get his wife back.

  4. I think that the village was being a bit greedy, but Ilunga DID dig the pond especially to grow fish to feed them.

  5. I think that because Ilunga is the chief, he feels the need to take care of his people

  6. Yeah, I think they are being greedy considering he did all of this so he could get his wife back.

  7. I think the other villagers should go get there own ponds. Those jerks just totally mooched off of Ilunga. They should go get their own ponds!!!

  8. I think the village was being greedy. They didn't even ask Ilunga if they could have some of his harvest.

  9. I think that Ilunga would want to help out the people that need food, because it said in the book that they help each other out.

  10. I think that the village was just being greedy and Ilunga should have said no when they asked for some fish. I do believe that Ilunga wanted the villagers to help them selves but I think he should have kept the fish.

  11. I think that that the village kind of was being greedy, but in other country they do that. I wouldn't do that, but other cultures do.

  12. I think the villagers were being very greedy and shouldn't have took advantage of Ilunga like they did.

  13. Yes, I do think that the village was greedy because he put in all that hard work and time into it. He really wanted his wife back and none of them cared very much. It was definitely not fair for Ilunga.

  14. I think that it was unfair to Ilunga that they critisized him for his work and then wanted a share of his profit, but if everybody shares their stuff with everyone else then it is okay but they should have to appoligize to Ilunga for making fun of his fish pond though.

  15. Yes, I think the village should have at least helped a little bit. They were very greedy and selfish. The villagers made me a little mad because if I was Ilunga I don't think I would have shared any of my fish.

  16. I think the village wasn't greedy because that is just the way they live there. They actually know how to share when people are starving. That's just their lifestyle.

  17. I think that Ilunga did the right thing by giving out the fish. He had enough for the whole village and more so instead of being selfish he shared with the rest of the village.

  18. I think that the villagers shouldn't have been selfish and just cared about themselves when Ilunga worked so hard to harvest the fish.

  19. I think that the villagers were greedy. They could have helped or at least not talk about him and his pond behind him. Ilunga needed those fish to get his wife back and nobody cared. All the cared about was getting some fish. They were all selfish and just thinking about themselves. I know if I was Ilunga, and I knew everyone was talking about me and my work behind my back, I wouldn't share any of my fish but with the people who helped me harvest them.

  20. I think that the village was being greedy because a lot of them didn't even think that the pond was going to work out,but then it did and they took the fish without even asking.

  21. I think the villagers did not realize the impact that taking ten fish would have, as they each thought that it was only ten fish and would not do much harm. From a third person view it is easy to say that they are greedy, but if you think about it from another point of view they were just trying to support their families.

  23. I think that the villagers were being greedy by taking Illunga's harvest. But, in their culture they share their food. I think that Illunga should have kept most of his harvest because he was the one that worked hard on his harvest to get his wife back. Also, because some of the villagers laughed at him when he was digging his pond and they thought it was a silly idea. In the end, it was a smart idea.

  24. I don't think the village was being greedy because there culture is alot more sharing then are's and sharing some of your harvest is probably normal there.

  25. I think the village wasn't as greedy because they could of took all of Ilunga's fish. But the villagers should have thought of that this was Ilunga's fish not theirs, I know I wouldn't do that. But every one has to survive so Ilunga did the right thing. It was kind of a bitter sweet moment for him.
