Impact

Has this book impacted you in anyway? For example, I've heard of child soldiers, but have never spent any time thinking about them. This book left me with an uneasy, tortured feeling. It made me appreciate my life here in America, safely away from the wars in Africa. What, if anything, has this book done for you?

  1. It made me feel like I had an easier life here in America. Ishmael had to go through the torture of seeing close ones slaughtered, the lack of food and water, and all the pain he has to go through in order to just survive. Here in America, we don't have kids fighting in the war, there's plenty of food, water, and shelter here for us, and even if you don't have a place to stay, they take you to the homeless shelter so you at least have a home.

  2. This book has made me thankful that me or any of my friends have had to go into war being a boy soldier. It has also made me think of how hard the war was. It also makes me feel better that I did not have to witness watching all those people die. It make me feel sorry for Ishmael for not having a lot of food or comfort through most of this book.

  3. It made me feel like I'm living in a really safe environment. In Africa, you don't really have a choice to fight. Here in America, you aren't aloud to fight until your a certain age. It also makes me realize how many privlages we have here. We have shelter and always avaliable food.

  4. This book has given me something to think about about how the life can be in other places around the world. I also appreciate the advantages we have here in the U.S.A., food, clean water, protection. I think us Americans are lucky.

  7. This book made me appreciate America way more then I did before reading this book. I feel bad for the kids that had to live through the war. They really didn't have a normal life. They had to live through being afraid of everything, and they had to find their food to survive. as for us we just have to go through the fridge. WE have a way easier life then they did.

  8. I has made me kind of want to see what the war is like but not in Africa Because it sounds really horrible. It also so made me feel a little bad for the innocent people who died.

  9. This book has made me realize the troubles some children are going through. It makes me feel a little guilty that I have food, water, family, and friends, while these child soldiers are killing people for survival. They miss out on the many special experiences of being a kid.

  10. After reading this book I realized how lucky we are in America. I don't think any of us could begin to imagine what child soldiers like Ishmael have gone through. It makes me think more about children in other counrites that have to live their whole life in a war. Many people here take what they have for granted, such as shelter, food, clean water, and clothing. This book made an impact on my perspective of what living is really all about.

  11. This book has made me think how lucky we are to live in America. It also showed me to value everything I have because you never know when it could all be gone just like that. It also made me realize that we almost always have food and running water where ever we go. This book really made me think about how good we have it

  12. This book made me feel how lucky we are to have food, running water, and peace in America. It also made me feel sad for all of the child soldiers who lost their childhood. Us Americans really don't think of losing ones childhood. This book made me feel more grateful for all that I have.

  13. This book just makes me realize how lucky we are in america to have food, family, and shelter. I know we all have those times where we're like, " oh my life sucks!" but now when I think that I have the voice in the back of my mind saying " You think your life sucks? Think how the child soldiers felt."
