point of view

We’ve talked about the importance of Point of View. Obviously, this is first person. What if this story were told from the third person? How might you see Ishmael differently? What does the first person perspective give you as a reader, that the third person perspective couldn’t?

  1. I think that if the story were told from third person then we wouldn't know the feeling and emotions that Ishmael went through. We wouldn't understand the agony and pain Ishmael went through either. I am glad that it is told from first person so that we understand more and can feel and visualize more of the story.

  2. If it was in a different point of view the rebels could be talking talking about Ishmael and the army and saying that they're burning there homes, killing their families and killing them in ruthless ways. First person makes it look like the army is the good guys and that the rebels are the only ones killing people and burning villages.

  3. I believe that if this story was told in third person it wouldn't be as interesting because you wouldn't know what Ishmael is thinking. First person is different from third person because first person can be more descriptive than third because first tells what the character is thinking and third just tells what the character is doing.

  4. I think that if the story was told from third person that we would not get the full effect on everything. We wouldn't be able to see Ishmael's feelings towards everything. In 1st person you can tell that he has very strong and graphical feelings towards everything, in 3rd person you wouldn't be able to tell.

  5. If this book was written in 3rd person you wouldn't know much about Ishmael. You wouldn't know how he is feeling, the blood, injuries and deaths he had seen. It just wouldn't be the same book. The 1st person perspective compared to the 3rd person perspective just gives it way more detail and what he is going through it just makes the book a lot more interesting.

  6. I think that this story would be very different if it was told from the third person. From a different perspective, they could describe Ishmael's physical appearance and his way of communicating to others. I could see Ishmael as very rude in a third person perspective, but polite and kind in first person. The first person perspective tells you exactly how Ishmael is experiencing this event and what his feelings are. The third person perspective couldn't give you all that information.

  7. I think that the book wouldn't be as precise and descriptive. Ishmael would see different because we wouldn't know him as well as when he's talking. When Ismael is personally talking it's like your actually there inside his head. He takes it detail by detail very well.

  8. I think if this story was told in third person it would be less interesting because it wouldn't be as dramatic, or descriptive. When Ishmael tells the story himself, he describes everything so detailed as he remembered it,you can feel the pain he was feeling, and how strong he stayed for so long. Third person you wouldn't know everything as well.

  9. I think the story would be extremely different if it was told in 3rd person. You wouldn't know Ishmael's true feelings about everything. The loss he felt for his family, anger when he knew if he had hurried up the would have meet them, and pain and repulsion when he saw his own flesh almost dripping off of his feet.

  10. I think that the story would be a lot worse if told from 3rd person. 3rd person wouldn't be as descriptive and might not tell the story as accurately. 3rd person might make the book better in places or make you understand the novel better. Like if the lieutenant told the story he could tell you why he choose Ishmael.

  11. If this was in third person it would be very different because i wouldn't feel like i knew Ishmael as well. I wouldn't really know how he felt about the people he meets and how he describes the things that happen to him.

  12. I think that the story wouldn't be as touching as it is now if it was told in third person rather than first person. Having the story told in first person is a lot better because you can feel the pain Ishmael goes through, what he sees, and how he feels throughout the days. He explains well about things that happen(ed), and as the reader, you could even draw a picture in your mind.

  13. I don't think this story would touch peoples hearts as much if it was told from 3rd person point of view instead of 1st person point of vies because in 1st person you have more detail and you could see how brutal the rebels actually were. If it wasn't Ishmael's point of view you wouldn't know him Ishmael as well and understand why he made the choices he makes. Ishmael explains these scenes so well that you can have an exact picture in your mind of the scene.

  14. it may seem like ishmael is a quiet harmless kid trying to find his family after his home villlage was attacked.

  15. I think if the story was told in third person it would be as interesting as being told in first person. If it was told in third person Ishmael would be a different person. I think Ishmael would seem like a leader to all the other boys. If it was in third perosn we wouldnt know what Ishmael was thinking through the war and how he felt about it.

  16. I think that the story would be way different, because you wouldn't know what Ishmael was thinking when the parts were interesting. Like when people were getting shot you wouldn't know what he saw.
