"End of Skill" and Culture

We discussed the fact that culture seems to get lost as generations pass through the years. After all, America is the "melting pot" and old traditions give way to American values and American traditions. Is this good or bad?

  1. I think it's a bad thing because then they would forget where they came from and how they grew up as. Instead of acting the way they grew up, they would act how the other people in America act.

  2. I think this is bad because then they will not remember where they came from and the traditions they had in that place. Instead of acting like how there culture acts they will instead act how most Americans act.

  4. I think that it is not a bad thing if culture gets lost. I do think it is a bad thing if it gets abused.

  5. A new culture and better way of life are very good things, but you should still hold on to your own culture and who you are.

  6. I think this is bad because culture is one of the things that makes us different. If you lose that, then you kind of melt into the crowd. People should remember where they came from and the traditions that they once had.

  7. It has both good and bad. We can never totally forget where we come from, but by learning about the diverse cultures that surround us, we can become more understanding of others. Culture in America is adaptions and additions of traditional celebrations and customs. We truly are a melting pot, because as more cultures come in, we embrace them and become more tolerant of others.

  8. Any loss of any culture is a great loss. Its like tearing a page from a book or something special being lost.

  9. It is sad to see cultures go like that, it really is, but sometimes there is a bigger picture than that, you have to make it in this world and lets face we are hostile to outsiders. Its like at the airport, people can treat a two year old like a terrorist, once we are through security we are treated just fine, except for the food.

  10. I think its bad to lose your culture because you should hold on to your culture and keep your traditions. Their is always room for new traditions and values, but don't forget where you came from.

  11. I think it depends. I mean that to some cultures it is vital, but not others. My family has come from many different places but mostly England. We came to America very early in history, from the revolution and some in the civil war. My great great great great great grandpa was Brigham Young. He lead the Mormons to Utah after years of being beaten and chased place to place. After all the things my ancestors went through I feel like saying I am American is a full truth and all there needs to be told.

  12. I think that its good because how else would we know about all these different cultures, and we wouldn't have the knowledge that we have today.

  13. I think people shouldn't lose their culture because its an important thing in their life. But if i think it would be good if they have new traditions to.

  14. It depends on the person coming to America. You have to come to America and it's not like we force Americas traditions on people who come
here. It's an in between thing to me.

  15. I think that it is both. Some traditions are good and others are mean and reckless. If we got the bad one's removed and kept the good one's that would be great.

  16. I think it's bad because if one person stops respecting their culture than everyone thinks it's ok too. So I think people should stick with their culture and not break their rules.

  17. I think it's not a good thing that some culture is slowing fading. It's important to stay close with your culture. I also think it can be good. This is because when some traditions fade away, new traditions come alone and those are kept.
