"End of Skill" appreciation

Vanessa says she "loves" Kente. The ambassador loves Kente. Jimmy's father loves Kente. Can you love something that you don't truly understand? Can you have reverance for something you don't truly understand? Or is it just an appreciation?

  1. I think that you can appreciate something that you don't fully understand, but I don't think you can truly love it. Vanessa liked it because of the way it made her feel more African. The ambassador liked it because if the decorations and the nice way it lit up his house. But none of them truly loved it like Jimmy's father did. He loved it because of it's culture and he loved it because he understood what it was meant for. I think that Vanessa and the ambassador only appreciated the Kente cloth. But I think that Jimmy's father appreciated it AND loved it.

  2. I think you can love things in different ways. Vanessa loves the Kente not for it's cultural past, but for it's interesting patterns and designs. Jimmy's father not only loves kente, but I think he has passion for it.

  3. You can love something you don't understand it's a different love than if someone does understand it. Vanessa and the ambassador love the Kente for the way it looks, Jimmy's father loves it for what it means to him.

  4. you can love it even if you don't really have an understanding reverance for it. It's a kind of naive love, but it's still love.

  5. I do think you can love something you don't truly understand. Like in abstract paintings, its the painters interpretation of something he knows or something special to him. When you see that painting you might not understand it but you might love it.

  6. Yes, you can love something that you don't understand, but you won't love it the same as people who do understand it.

  8. I think that you can appreciate something you don't understand but you can't truly love it. If you love something you want to use it right and know a lot about it. Whereas when you just appreciate it you don't know everything and you are like well... it looks nice.

  9. I think that you can love something even if you don't understand it. Some people have reverence for their Kente but other people just like to make it and the way it looks. For the people that don't truly love Kente, they probably just appreciate it.

  10. I think you only think that you love what you don't understand. If you don't know what it truly is you can't truly love it at least that's what I think. Vanessa didn't truly love it because she only wanted it to make her feel more African. Vanessa only appreciates kente she wants to be more African. I think kente won't make you more African.

  11. I think you can love something that you don't fully understand, if you try hard enough I think you can fully love and appreciate something. If you know and respect the "rules of Kente" I don't think you can have reverence for something you don't understand though. It's like going to a Catholic Church and not believing in God.

  12. You can say that you love something but that doesn't always mean anything, like I say that I love bacon but its like I like eating it. When Vanessa says that she loves kente but she probably only loves certain things about it, unlike Jimmy's dad who loves and appreciates everything about it.

  13. I think that you can love something, even though you don't truly understand its meaning. Vanessa loved the kente , but not really for its stories that the cloth told to people that actually understood the purpose of the cloth. She just loved the way the designs looked. I think that Jimmy's father really loved and understood the kente cloth. He had a passion for it and really believed that it is sacred.

  14. I think you can't love something if you don't really understand it. Vanessa didn't really understand it and she disrespected Jimmy's culture, but if she did love it she wouldn't have wore the kente cloth like that.

  15. I think you can love something and not understand it. Vanessa loved the cloth because it made her feel more African, the ambassador loved it because it made his house more decorative, and Jimmy's father loved and understood the meaning and value of the cloth.

  16. I think they just like the way it looks or that it makes them different but, that is all wrong they do not know how to use it or respect it.That is what I think.

  17. I think you can love something not because you truly know the the meaning you have it. Like during christmas there are a lot of kids who don't even know that we are celebrating Jesus's birthday. Yet they still love like anyone else would.

  18. I think you can't truly love sometihng if you haven't tried it or don't understand it completely. You could be extremely interested in it, and want to learn more about it; but no, in my opinion you don't truly love something until you know a lot about it and have been doing it for a while.
