Mr. Neville

At the end of the film, Mr. Neville cannot afford to continue the search for the girls. He is quoted saying, "If they would only understand what we are trying to do for them." What does he mean? What do you think about what he is saying/meaning?

  1. I think that he, in his twisted mindset, thinks that he is helping them by giving them an education. I also think that he could do it in a manner where he does not tear them away from their parents and treat them so harshly. Instead of one large camp maybe he could have put small camps throughout the countryside where the children could go to school while still living with their parents. We can not change the past, we can only learn from it.

  2. The reason he said that is because he thought he was making the aboriganol people more civilizied. He just thinks that everyone has to be white and civilized.

  3. Mr. Neville thought that he was doing them a favor by getting all of the black blood out of them. He thought that living the life of a white was the only RIGHT life. I don't think that this is right because I believe that if someone is happy with the life that they have, then we should let them live contently. There is no right way to live life. And it doesn't matter what skin color you are.

  4. He thinks that teaching them to act white is better, which isn't true. They should stay true to their culture if they want to.

  5. Mr.Neville is thinking that he is helping the aborginal people by trying to make them more familiar with the civilized world.

  6. I think Mr. Neville thinks its best for them to come back to the camp. He thinks that if they run back home, they will be no good and not be worth anything. At the camp at least the can learn about being servants and helping other people. The children just wanted to run back home to their parents and he happy with their family; while Mr. Neville thinks its best to get smarter and become something in life.

  7. he thinks that if he brings them to the school they learn the basics and they become maids and workers. they get sterile food and water and all that and they just want to live a traditional life.

  8. I think that Mr.Neville was thinking that he was helping the aboriginal people, by putting the half casts into a white society.

  9. Mr. Neville truely thinks that by putting the 'half-casts' into servitude, they can have a better future. It's like during world war two; Hitler convinced people that Jewish people needed to be taken care of. That's what happened in Australia. Some crazy person decided that the aboriginals needed to be taken care of, and brainwashed others into his cause. In a weay, Mr. Neville was helping them, just not in the way he should.

  10. He thought he was doing a favor for them by breeding all the black heritage out. Dark skin was thought to be some sort of impurity, and aparently (in their opinion) made you stupid. I guess by his way of thinking he was making them smarter.

  11. I think Mr.Neville thinks he is helping aboriginal people but is actually hurting them more then they already were.

  12. I think Mr. Neville was thinking he would be helping them by bringing them back, but it was really hurting them. He thinks that the aboriginal people will be more civilized, get a good education and know how to work.

  13. I think Mr. Neville thought he was helping them by putting them in the camp. I think he is just making it worse for them though.

  14. I think Mr. Neville thought he was helping them by giving them a better shelter and home, education, and teaching them how to do certain things was better. To Molly and her siblings though, they thought being with family would be better, even if they didn't have all the things that they had at the camp.

  15. I think that he thinks he's doing the right thing and that trying to teach little abborigional girls how to be slaves is what you should do, but its wrong.

  16. In his twisted, disturbed, manipulating mind he's helping them with their life in getting them ready for what he thinks they're going to do.

  17. I think that he is just trying to teach them how to be white and how you should act. In my opinion I think he thought putting them through this was helping them, when really I don't think it was.

  18. I think Mr. Neville thinks or would like to think he is doing them (the aboriginal people) a favor and doing the right thing. He really isn't and what he is doing should be stopped. I think he was trying to help them learn how to be white but I also think there could be a different and better way to do that if that is really what he wanted to do.

  19. He thinks that he it trying to help them and teach them proper white people ways. My opinion was that he was doing the wrong thing because I don't think its right to take a person away from their homes when they didn't do anything wrong.

  20. I think that Mr. Neville thinks that if they girls come back to the camp that they will be tought to be "white" and he also thinks that he will be helping them for later on in their lives.

  21. I think that he is trying to show them that they can have a better life, but they don't understand that its better.

  22. I think that he was trying to say that he was going to give them a better life in his point of view, that they would be better off doing what he told them to do and made them do.

  23. I think he is trying to show that they can have a better life. They understand that.

  24. I agree with Courtney, Mr. Neville thinks that if the girls come back it will help them with their lives because they will teach them the "white" way.

  25. He means that they are trying to make civilization better for the people of Australia, for everyone to act like whites. I think his opinion is unfair. Being true to your culture shouldn't be a reason to be taking away from your home.

  26. I think Mr. Neville thinks he is helping the aboriginal girls by teaching them to act in the ways a "white" person would act. I don't think he is actually helping them, rather taking away their culture.

  27. I think that he truly thought that he was helping them out. By taking them from their family and turning them into white culture he only made it work.

  28. Mr. Neville is thinking that he is giving the aboriginal girls what they want. He thinks
that what he is doing for the girls is "right". He is trying to teach them how regular or "white" people act. Mr. Neville thought he was making their lives better.

  29. He is saying that he wants the girls to be white and there for "superior". The fact that he thinks white is superior is wrong but he meant only good intentions. It is not nevilles fault that he believed that white was better it was how most people were raised believing.
